Do you ride in the beautiful Mournes area of Northern Ireland, or would you ever like to?
We need your help by completing an important survey.
Access has suddenly been denied to horse riders in Castlewellan Forest Park after almost 60 years of enjoyment with other users. As a horse lover, you will be well aware that access to safe places to ride are more important than ever, as the speed and volume of traffic on Northern Ireland’s roads increases.
Outdoor Recreation Northern Ireland (ORNI) is undertaking a strategic review of the existing horse riding provision within the Mournes forests for Newry Mourne and Down District Council. They wish to “gain a true picture of the current provision for horse riders in the Mournes forests and also make recommendations for future provision”.
The results of this survey may influence decisions made in other areas where you currently ride, particularly forestry. If you care about riding in the Mournes, where you ride and preserving the little off-road access Northern Ireland has to offer, please complete this short survey and encourage others to do so, too. The deadline for completing the survey is Wednesday 22 March 2017.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Susan Spratt, National Manager for Ireland, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
