Help shape the future of the British Horse Society
Nominations have now closed. Please check back in July to find out how to vote in the Trustee Election.
A vibrant, well-qualified Board is vital to the success of the British Horse Society. Now is your chance to use your professional and personal skills to lead and govern the BHS as a trustee. Alongside your fellow trustees, you would help to develop the BHS for the benefit of our members and the wider equestrian community.
Our trustees devote their time and experience to the BHS by attending and preparing for Board meetings and away days, supporting the executive team with good governance and representing the BHS at events and on committees.
We are looking to elect individuals with specialisms, which complement those of our existing trustees, and who can support and empower the executive team. Our priorities for the Trustee Election 2017 are: Access, Safety, Education and Strategic Commercial and Business Development.
Please take a look at our trustee role description and the specialist role descriptions below to understand more about the trustee role for the British Horse Society.
You will champion safe off-road access for equestrians, encouraging the provision of greater off-road access for equestrians and promoting the principle of multi-use access for all non-motorised vulnerable road users.
Alongside your fellow trustees, you will ensure the Society’s Access charitable aim is achieved for the benefit of members and non-members.
You will support and advise the executive team on new initiatives and opportunities that the Society could work on to provide greater safe off-road access.
Access trustee role description
You will assist the executive team in promoting the safety of horses and riders to a variety of equestrian and non-equestrian audiences. You will also assist the team in identifying opportunities for engagement with other stakeholders, and your knowledge of safety will provide an invaluable addition to the expertise already contained within the BHS Safety Team.
Safety trustee role description
This is an exciting time for BHS Education, and we are looking for additional skills and experience from the equestrian education sector. Your role will involve the strategic governance of our exams and training along with the Register of Instructors and Grooms.

Strategic Commercial and Business Development
The BHS is growing and developing as an organisation. We have made significant advancement in our internal planning and management processes, and will be embedding these over the next five years. We will also be enhancing our performance monitoring and management and assessing the potential of new markets.
This role will support the continued development of our internal processes and systems, and advise and support our investigation of new markets, including options to develop the BHS internationally. You will also provide knowledge and guidance in respect of our support for BHS Approved Centres.
