The British Horse Society takes equality very seriously.

We are fully committed to the principles of equality. We believe that everyone, regardless of background, race, gender, age, physical ability, sexual orientation, culture or belief should have the same opportunities to take part in equestrian activities and enjoy horses.

The fundamental principles we work to are:

  • To ensure that all people, irrespective of race, gender, ability, ethnic origin, social status or sexual orientation, have equal opportunities in equestrianism at all levels and in all roles
  • To educate and guide our members, their employees and volunteers on the ownership, adoption and implementation of our Equality Policy
  • To raise awareness of equality through the implementation of the policy and the adoption of our Equality Action Plan
  • To monitor, review and evaluate progress in achieving the stated aims and objectives and to feed back to member organisations on progress made.

We will ensure that our recruitment and selection procedures are fair and transparent, and that they meet the appropriate legal requirements.

Ensuring equal opportunity for all

No job applicant, employee, or volunteer with the BHS will receive less than favourable treatment on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, language, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, pregnancy, religious belief, class or social background, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or political belief.

We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that there will be open access to all those who wish to participate in equestrian activities and ensure that they are treated fairly. Through education and awareness campaigns, our aim is to increase involvement of all groups at all levels.
