LOCH NESS RIDING

Overview

Horses Welcome Establishment

We offer a range of self-catering cottages and cabins, all close to Loch Ness, and all offering a balance between a spectacular environment and convenience of access to the city of Inverness and neighbouring facilities. Whichever one you choose, we are sure that you will not be disappointed. We are right on the trail of the seven Lochs and very close to the South Loch Ness Trail.

For the horses

Permanent stables with rubber matting and automatic drinkers. Paddocks and hill grazing available with plenty of hard standing for lorries and trailers.

For people

Modern self-catering unit in refurbished steading . Sleeps four (minimum two nights). There is also a nearby B&B and a local pub/restaurant. Only 20 mins drive away is Inverness where all types of accommodation can be found.

Riding opportunities

We are on the trail of the Seven Lochs (a 50-mile loop) and half a mile from the South Loch Ness Trail, which can be linked with the Great Glen Way to circumnavigate Loch Ness. There are also plenty more shorter loop rides available.  We only cater for experienced riders at Loch Ness Riding. Riders should be competent and balanced at all paces - English style - no jumping required! Our weight limit (depending on horses available of the day) is around 15 st. or 100 kg. NO children under 14 unless by special arrangement.

Hacks of different length are offered over very varied but always scenic terrain. Horses include, Arab, Thoroughbred, warmblood and irish/Welsh sports horses all well schooled and fit for their work. Most of the horses take part in competitions of one type or another and are responsive and forward going as we do not take beginners.

We provide qualified instruction in flatwork, jumping, western and endurance and offer training for students from BHS Stage 1 to Stage 4. We also hold BHS assessments at our yard (see BHS website for details).

Loch Ness Riding also hosts the Man V Horse race early in the year.

Directions

From Inverness take the B862 to Dores and bear left up the hill for 1.5 miles (still the B862). Turn right to Loch Ness Riding.
