The camp is open to BHS Members and is limited to 40 places, secured by deposit on a first-come-first-served basis. The camp is open to riders of all levels, who will be grouped accordingly for ridden sessions, and the focus of the camp is to boost confidence and “get ready to compete”! The BHS Camp has been designed to help you do just that, by using instructors who are passionate about helping riders and know how to inspire confidence. Our instructors are not just fantastic coaches, they are themselves experienced competitors and, above all, are friendly and great fun! Our chief instructor, helping to organise the camp, is Charlie Samuel-Camps, a freelance BHSII who holds a in BSc Equine Sports Science. Charlie has competed successfully at affiliated dressage, showjumping and eventing with a number of horses over the years, and is passionate about helping other riders achieve their goals, whatever those might be. She has great fun doing so, and she loves her pupils to enjoy their lessons too!
The camp is ideal for those wanting to dip a toe in to competing this year, whether it‟s to try a BE80 or an unaffiliated dressage test. As well as riding, there will be plenty of time to discuss competition strategies - what to do on the day, how to warm up, how to look after your horse after a XC round, plus things like what tack you need and what to take with you. For those who want, there will be the chance to join in sessions on turnout too – a great chance to tame wild manes with an expert on hand to advise!
The cost is £250 per rider, to include stabling and bedding, use of arenas and XC, instruction, talks and fun competition entries, plus use of the shower block, dining room, and provision of lunches and refreshments.
What‟s not included?
Breakfast and dinner, hay and feed for your horse, and looking after your horse (!) - there will always be someone to help if you are stuck with something, but basic care is DIY.
