This camp is open to all BHS members, Silver, Gold, Lifetime and BHS Friends. It is aimed at the everyday grassroots rider up to the aspiring competition rider. We are able to cater for all levels of rider, from the novice and nervous to advanced riders. The aim of camp is to cover all disciplines, although we are able to offer a flat only option. You will enjoy three days and two nights in the wonderful setting of Chard Equestrian. Our Instructors will work with you in small groups and put you through your paces, bringing out the best of you and your horse.
With everyone keen and ready to support each other, you will thrive and progress with your horse over the weekend. Camp will also offer evening entertainment, in the form of a demonstration or lecture. You are then welcome to relax after dinner and enjoy a glass of wine(bring your own) and reflect on your day.
Most importantly we want you to have fun and enjoy the time with your horse and fellow campers.
The Cost of Camp is £195 per member.
A Stable for your horse including bedding (shavings)
Five to six hours of ridden tuition in groups of no more than six, with BHS qualified instructors
Exclusive use of the venue for the entire weekend
Camp starts after lunch on the Friday and guests are welcome to arrive from 12pm, we will have a meet your team session and then onto the riding in the afternoon, there will be entertainment both Friday and Saturday evenings in the form of a talk or demonstration
Each of you will be given the opportunity to take part in a fit to ride session, run by Gemma Barry BHSI to improve your posture, position and confidence.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are included in the price starting Friday evening finishing with tea and cakes on the Sunday afternoon, Tea and coffee and cold juice /water are also provided.
All horses/ponies must be four years or older, Must hold a passport and need to have all vaccinations up to date. You will need a riding hat conforming to current standard, BSEN 1384 marked hats must also contain one of the following standards PAS015, Snell or ASTM F1163. Fixed peak hats are not permitted on the XC course. Body Protectors conforming to Level 3 BETA 2009 standards must also be worn for XC. You are encouraged to wear body protectors for showjumping, but it is not compulsory. If you choose to wear an air jacket, you will still have to wear your body protector on the XC course.
The BHS Camp will be held at Chard Equestrian, Higher Purtington show field, Chard, TA18 8QY, just outside Chard in the beautiful Somerset countryside, located close to the Dorset border a perfect location for this joint venture. With superb facilities, six Grass arenas, including dressage arenas, two new all weather surface arenas 22mx62m and 55mx70m, 2 full sets of BSJA show jumps, Working hunter jumps, XC courses from 50cm – 1m, new and improved fences 2015/2016, 26 internal stables and additional event stabling. There is electric hook up points for lorries and caravans requiring it and shower and toilet facilities. Chard are also able to offer onsite catering to keep us all well fed and watered during our stay.
26 Stables, 10x12 are located in the newly built barn, 24 additional event stables 10x10 are available on site, similar to those seen at country shows, eventing venues. Stables are allocated on horse size basis, Where possible we will keep friends attending together, stabled together. There will be no turnout during the camp, however you may graze in hand. Shavings bedding is included and provided.
You will need to bring your own hay/haylage and hard feed.
Bookings can be made immediately, paid in full or with a deposit of £95 to secure your place. After 31 March bookings will need to be made with full payment £195
In all cases full payment needs to be made on or before Sunday 1 April
Print Booking Form
In the event of the camp becoming fully booked, a waiting list will be held and a deposit of £40 in the form of a cheque, will be required to keep your place on the waiting list. Or we can hold your £95 if already sent in with your form. We will notify you as soon as possible if a place becomes available. Booking forms will need to be completed also. Should a place not be secured we will return your booking form and cheque to you. If you are offered a space payment will need to be made in full within 5 days if before 30 April and within 24 hours if after 1 May.
You will need to bring:
A tent or horsebox or caravan or some sort of accommodation, electric hook up is provided and included.
Hay for your horse as well as hard feed.
Buckets for water and feed.
Wine or evening tipple.
You are responsible for checking your Hat and Body Protector conform to current standard, however they will be checked on arrival.
This is not a pony club camp, you are responsible for checking your own tack is safe, secure and fitted correctly. There will be many hands onsite to assist and ask, if you need help. But the overall responsibility remains with you.
Spectators (friends and families) are welcome to come and watch but we must be notified in advance and they must sign in once on site and sign out on departure. Spectators may not enter arenas with out the instructors permission.
Well behaved dogs who are familiar with horses are welcome, but must be kept on leads at all times and be cleaned up after. Any dog found to be a nuisance will be required to leave the site.
Our Instructors are all BHS qualified, and have been chosen specifically to ensure you have a wonderful, safe and fun time with us at camp.
The BHS Somerset and Dorset committees will have a representative and first aider on site at all times.
