National access workshop for recreation user reps on Local Access Forums
28 September 2019
St Matthew’s Church Hall, Tay Street, Perth, PH1 5LQ
Scotland has world class rights of access established in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 and accompanying Scottish Outdoor Access Code. These access rights are implemented and enforced at a local level, with Local Access Forums (LAFs) given a key role as statutory bodies to advise the access authority on matters relating to access in their area. Sadly many LAFs are struggling to operate effectively, often due to lack of support or resources. In time, this can lead to obstructions not being removed and investment in paths and other infrastructure being cut. As a result, communities and individuals are unable to fully enjoy the outdoors and gain all the benefits to health and wellbeing that brings.
This event is being organised by Ramblers Scotland and the Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society and is jointly hosted by the main national recreation bodies. It aims to bring together our members who represent recreation users on their LAFs to:
- Share experiences and build networks across LAFs.
- Identify key areas where recreation bodies can support their members on LAFs.
- Help LAF members learn more about how access rights work in practice.
- Update members on the latest developments in access.
Members of our organisations who have an interest in access but don’t currently sit on a LAF are also very welcome to come along.
The event is free to attend for members, including lunch and refreshments.
This event is jointly hosted by:
The British Horse Society Scotland, Cycling UK, Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland, Mountaineering Scotland, Ramblers Scotland, Scottish Canoe Association, and ScotWays
