Horses for Courses – A Holistic Approach to Training (CPD)
The age old saying ‘Horses for courses’ still stands the tests of time, but how carefully do we assess the needs of our horses for the job we are asking them to do?
BHS NW & The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre (BTRC) is bringing you a fascinating day of training covering:
- Initial assessments
- Diagnosis – identifying pain or behaviour
- Suitable training for realistic goals
- Sustainability – effective maintenance
The BTRC is dedicated to the Welfare, Rehabilitation, Retraining and Rehoming of Retired Racehorses. As such they have become experts in assessment, retraining and long term maintenance of the horses they rehome. Developing a highly skilled team including nutritionist, farrier, vet, riders and coaches they create suitable and realistic training programmes to ensure the horses longevity in a future alternative career. This makes them the perfect partner to host this exciting training day looking at a holistic approach to training horses.
FEI Vet, Gordon Sidlow BVMS MRCVS has served as Veterinary Delegate in various international competitions and as a Treating Vet for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. He has worked with the BTRC for 3 years, and prior to that worked with BTRC Chief Executive Gillian Carlisle in Hong Kong.
Gillian is an experienced Stage 4 Coach in Complete Horsemanship, previously managing the equine operations for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, rehabilitating and retraining retired racehorse. Speakers will also include Callum Garvey, long term equine farrier for BTRC and TopSpec nutritionist.
