It should be noted that this day will concentrate on BHS Stage 4 exam. This day will be of benefit to those preparing candidates for these exams. Candidates for the Stage 4 exam must be at least 18 years of age for the riding section and 19 years old for the horse knowledge and care.
To attend you must have:-
- Completed BHS Stage 1, 2 and 3.
- Attend prepared to ride.
- Be a current BHS Gold Member.
The BHS Stage exams are made up from units and small qualifications. You may choose to sit all the units leading to a qualification in one day, or may prefer to ‘pick and mix’ units. Further information including cost, syllabus etc can be found on the BHS website.
A BHS stable manager training day has been organised for 10 October – venue in Northern Ireland – details will follow.

Horse Knowledge Care and Riding Stage 4:
This qualification will show you as able to take responsibility for yard organisation. You will be able to take charge and look after a number of horses and ponies in a variety of situations, ensuring horses, stables, yard and fields are safe and in good order. You will have the experience to manage staff and students and show an all round knowledge of equine-relevant business matters. You will have the ability to assess and improve performance across a wide range of horses, as well as being
able to ride and train horses for elementary dressage, novice horse trials and newcomers show jumping competitions. You must be at least 18 years old for the riding section and 19 years old for the horse knowledge and care. You must have completed BHS Stage 1, 2 and 3. If you already hold equine qualifications (e.g. Pony Club tests or Work Based Diplomas) you may be able to gain direct entry into BHS Stage 4. Please contact the BHS Education Department via email for further information. Holders of the Stage 4 Horse Knowledge and Care and/or Riding will be able to progress to the BHS Stable Manager Certificate and/or BHS Senior Equitation Certificate. The Stage 4 is a component part of the BHS Intermediate Instructor Certificate.
Time:- 9.30am to 4pm.
