To take the BHS Stable Manager’s exam, you must be working in the industry and be competent and confident in all aspects of horse care and management. You will already hold the BHS Stage 4 Horse Knowledge and Care certificate, be 22 years of age or older, and be a Gold member of the BHS.
This qualification shows you have sound experience and knowledge in all aspects of horse care and that you are a competent stable manager, able to supervise and train staff and students. It also shows that you are able to examine horses for purchase and advise on maintaining horse health, care of competition horses, and the breeding and management of young horses.
Recognised in its own right by employers worldwide, this qualification is also a component part of the BHS Instructor Certificate. Holders will be able to run a private or commercial yard, competition yard or riding establishment.
Before applying for your exam, you’ll need to become a Gold or Gold Junior member of the BHS. Candidates living overseas who wish to take their exams in the UK will require Full Overseas membership. You can pay for your membership by monthly or annual Direct Debit, as well as credit or debit card. If you choose to pay by annual Direct Debit, you’ll also receive a £5 discount on your first year’s payment.
