BRC COVID-19 Update -

England Update on indoor schools 01.04.21:
We are disappointed to announce that no BRC activity can take place in an indoor facility until 12 April, with the exception of under 18s, disabled riders and elite riders. This means that any activities that were planned to take place in an indoor school between now and 12 April, will have to be rearranged to be held outside, or postponed.

We understand how frustrating the events of the past week have been for you all and how the uncertainty around the use of indoor schools has not helped with your plans to run BRC activities over the next few weeks. Behind the scenes we have been continuously consulting with the relevant Government departments, the British Horse Council and the BEF to establish the clarity which we need for indoor arenas to be used within the terms of the Covid Regulations. The Cabinet Office, has taken the position of treating all sports in the same way, which as we know is illogical in respect to indoor buildings and this removes the exemptions we had all fought so hard to achieve.

As we move towards Steps 2 (12 April) and 3 (17 May), restrictions ease, allowing the gradual increase of indoor school use. For details, see the BRC Spring Update. Please remember that all activities are subject to the necessary Covid risk assessments being in place and we always recommend that you check with your insurance provider or local authority for further clarity if required.

Following the latest government update, BRC are now able to issue the following update (click update for full document) with regards to BRC activities. There is also an additional update for England (updated 01/4/21) update for Scotland (updated 15/3/21) update for Wales (08/04/21) and update for Northern Ireland (140421) outlining the resumption plan for Spring.

It should be noted that whilst the respective governments are producing regular updates, these then require careful consideration and interpretation, to make the guidance relevant to our individual sector. The following updates are BRC’s current interpretation of the most recent government guidance and are subject to change, as and when government advice is updated.

Online Clinics

As we enter another National Lockdown and with the cease of all BRC activity, we have put together another series of informative virtual talks to get us through the weeks. These will be completely free for all 2021 BRC members.

We will be running a virtual clinic every Wednesday at 7pm for the next few weeks. The dates and topics are listed below. Spaces are limited so these will be on a first come first served basis.

Wednesday 14th April - Road Safety with BHS Safety Department

To register to join one of these virtual talk’s please email lydia.joyce@bhs.org.uk with your club and your 2021 membership number.

Cyber Security
We have recently been made aware that an affiliated club has been targeted by what appears to be fraudsters who have managed to hack in to some of the Club officials email accounts. Click see the up to date datasheet on internet and email security for clubs and remain vigilant.

Protecting Facebook Events

There have been a number of cases reported to us where Facebook Events have been targeted by phishing scams and spam posts. Unfortunately this seems to be on the rise because of the increase in digital events due to Covid. We have seen it at both regional and national level.

We understand that Facebook is obviously an extremely useful tool for delivering events, so we have put together a new BRC Datasheet which contains some actions that can be taken to help minimise the risk when running events this way.
