Case Study: Radway Riding School
Warwickshire, Area 5
Radway Riding School, located on the Warwickshire/Oxfordshire border, is a British Horse Society Approved Establishment offering superb modern facilities, with both an indoor school with viewing gallery and large outdoor manège. Their team of professional, friendly, qualified instructors offer tuition to children from the age of four and adults from beginners to advanced. They have a selection of well-schooled horses and ponies to suit all levels.
BRC offer a range of recognised training assessments which are compatible with the BHS exams sytem, and riders from Radway Riding Club Centre have taken part in this scheme. The Centre initially provided a series of training sessions, covering both Riding and Horse Welfare (there are four assessment levels to train for). The candidates were then put forward for an independent assessment and all passed and were awarded certificates of achievement. Radway Riding Club Centre had eight candidates who successfully passed the BRC Level 1 Riding Assessment.
BRC and Radway also were featured in a 2013 Sky Sports programme demonstrating how to ‘stay involved’ in riding. Radway were selected for this filming as they have been actively involved in a number of equestrian participation initiatives, including BRC Centre membership and the British Equestrian Federation’s Take Back the Reins scheme.
A team from Sky Sports TV filmed and interviewed a number of Radway riders who were taking part in flatwork and jumping lessons. Sarah Boffin, who has been a BRC Centre member for a couple of years, said: “I have really enjoyed being part of the BRC Centre Scheme at Radway. The training and riding experiences that I have gained here have been fantastic and I have had great fun along the way.”
Radway Riding School have also had tremendous success with the BRC Interdressage League, which is an online video competition website, providing dressage and style jumping classes aimed at all levels of rider, from true beginner through to the more advanced competitor. These classes enable riders to compete at their establishment against riders from all over the world, with great prizes available for both the winning Centre and Centre individuals.
Since the inception of the League in 2010, Radway have won both the overall Centre and Centre individual categories, with a number of members also being placed.
One competitor, Henrietta, comments: “We have made so many new friends on the Interdressage Facebook page – we even have an open invitation to visit an equestrian centre in Greece!”
Centre member Emma Weir adds: “With my work commitments, I don’t really have the time to travel to competitions, but with Interdressage I have been able to take part at the yard and also interact with people socially on Facebook and discuss my tests.”
Emma Weir from Radway explains why she has thoroughly enjoyed being a member of this scheme: “I joined the British Riding Club Centre Membership Scheme to help improve my riding and to take part in Centre competitions. I have received lots of friendly help and advice along the way.”
Maggie Boswell, Proprietor
I am really looking forward to working with BRC and being part of the Centre Membership Scheme, which I’m sure will give our riders real goals to aim for with their riding and overall equestrian experience.
