Case Study: Evergreen Stables
Northamptonshire, Area 5
Evergreen Stables is a small, friendly BHS Approved riding establishment and also a Pony Club Centre located in the heart of Northamptonshire. Evergreen was established in 1984 by proprietor Rachel Billing. The Centre offers lessons and good hacking suitable for all levels of riding.
After joining the BRC Centre Membership Scheme in 2011, Rachel told us that Evergreen planned on "entering BRC competitions, the BRC Interdressage League and offering our riders the opportunity to study for BRC Training Assessments. We are currently expanding the Centre with new facilities under development.”
Evergreen Stables kickstarted their BRC Interdressage League Campaign in 2011. They initially held a number of highly successful Interdressage training rallies, culminating in fourteen Riding Club Centre members taking part in their first ever Interdressage dressage classes in November 2011. Kath Pittam, senior instructor at the Centre was on hand to video all the competitors, with both seniors and juniors taking part on riding school horses and ponies.
Everyone was excited at the prospect of appearing on film and all were extremely well turned out and performed to a high standard. They enjoyed being able to watch their tests online at Interdressage and monitor the scoreboards throughout the month, prior to some really impressive results for their first attempts. Many received rosettes, prize money and certificates and also gained valuable points for Evergreen Stables in the BRC Centres Interdressage League.
A number of these Centre Members went on to enter for a second time in the December 2011 competitions, taking part in a range of Interdressage tests including pairs dressage! This Centre has now become hooked on the BRC Interdressage League.
Evergreen went on to win the BRC Centre League for 2011/2012 with a total of 697 points and again for 2012/2013 with 1,027 points. Rachel and Kath were thrilled to receive their overall award from Karina Hawkridge, founder of the Interdressage online competition website.
Rachel and Kath have also both taken part in Interdressage themselves. Rachel has used the tests to monitor the development of her homebred youngster, while Kath has enjoyed the challenge of some of the more advanced tests. Both can see the true value of this League for all levels of rider.
Kath comments: “Taking part in Interdressage competitions has given all the riders something to aim for. They enjoy competing against each other and receiving a constructive sheet of comments back by post, which we can then work on in their lessons.”
Julie Giles, who finished in overall fourth place in the League, stated: “I can thoroughly recommend Interdressage to any rider at any level. Taking part has definitely improved my riding. I have competed on different school horses each time and received some really encouraging and constructive comments from the judges."
All the riding school horses are now going so much better for their riders as a direct result of the riders' improvement using the BRC Interdressage League.
