Case Study: Back Lane Riding Club Centre
Yorkshire, Area 4
Back Lane Riding Club Centre in Area 4 has become an extremely active BRC Centre since its inception in 2011, hosting a whole range of activities for its members including fun rides, training days and summer dressage and show jumping competitions taking place on alternate Friday evenings.
"These evenings have been a great success. They're run on a points system and have really helped our new riding club centre. It's been a great way of encouraging more people to join and have fun,” says Anne Tate, Proprietor of Back Lane Stables.
"Our Santa Pony Ride took place on Christmas Eve with twelve riders exploring Black Carr Woods, Tong, near Bradford. The ride lasted three hours and everyone had a fabulous time, complete with dayglow fancy dress costumes – what a wonderful way to start the Christmas festivities. Back Lane also held a second riding club ride on New Year’s Eve. This time the venue was Oakwell Hall, West Yorkshire, again lasting for over three hours.
"These rides were extremely well attended with a waiting list for both,” says Anne.
Another well-supported Centre event was the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Ride. With 16 Back Lane Centre members taking part, this fancy dress ride looked really spectacular. Setting out from the stables, the riders were out for a number of hours. The side saddle riders may have been a little worse for wear on their return had they not stopped at a local pub for a drink before making their way back to Back Lane Stables!
Back Lane Centre have also hosted a team dressage competition, with seven teams taking part from around the area including Uplands Farm, Cricket Hill Farm and Back Lane Stables. The Centre was very fortunate to have one of the riding school's clients, RDF Builders from Leeds, to sponsor the event, with the sponsors' two boys regularly riding at the riding school.
Judge Bernice Holdsworth remarked on the high standard of all the riders. Bernice is a keen supporter of Back Lane Riding Club Centre and also completed a three-week clinic for its members in 2013.
In addition to the fun rides and competitions, Back Lane Riding Club Centre have put on a number of successful demonstration events, including a very informative side saddle demonstration.
