We strive to improve the standards of riding and horse welfare across the globe, and one of the main ways we do this is through education. Our qualifications are internationally recognised and provide people from other cultures with the correct knowledge regarding the training and care of horses and the opportunity to gain professional qualifications.
We welcome everyone who wants to improve their knowledge or riding skills, whether they are recreational riders or are already working in the equestrian industry. We hope that the people who take our exams will use what they have learnt to help others and spread the message that a high standard of horse welfare is vital.
It is currently possible to sit Stages 1, 2, 3, the Preliminary Teaching Test, Stage 4 and the Intermediate Teaching Test at some of our overseas exam centres. Standards are kept to the same level as in the UK, although some factors, such as those due to climate changes, are taken into consideration.
Our exams are recognised by the International Group for Equestrian Qualifications, which currently has over 30 member countries.
As an internationally-recognised organisation, all our members work hard to promote excellent horse welfare through their teaching and training. If you are interested in becoming a part of our team and taking an exam please call us on (0044) 2476 840508 or email email@example.com.
Where are exams held?
We currently have BHS Exam Centres in the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, Abu Dhabi and mainland China. There are many more BHS approved Riding and Training Establishments worldwide and a number of our Registered Instructors work overseas.
When are the exams held?
The dates for our next exams are still being decided, so watch this space for more information.
Due to exams being held outside the UK, fees are increased to cover additional administration and assessment costs. Please call us on 02476 840508 for more information.
How do I apply?
If you are interested in applying for an exam at one of our overseas centres, please complete an application form (available on each exam's page on the right) and return it along with the fee to the following address: Education Team, The British Horse Society, Abbey Park, Stareton, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 2XZ. We must receive your application at least eight weeks prior to the exam date.
If you are applying to sit a BHS exam outside of the UK, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland you must have a minimum of BHS E-membership. Please refer to the Exam Syllabus and Guidelines to find out about age requirements and prerequisites.
If English is not your first language you may sit the examination in the language of the country where you are applying to sit your exam. You should inform the Exam Centre and they will arrange for a translator if necessary.
