Horse Care & Welfare

Horse Passports

It is a legal requirement to have a passport for your horse, even if it never leaves its field. You must also have your horse microchipped if you live in England, Wales or Scotland. For more information about horse passports, call our Passport team. 

Friends at the End

Friends at the End’ is a BHS initiative, designed to make sure that no horse owner has to face the loss of their equine companion alone. We offer free, confidential support to horse owners/carers before, during or after the death or loss of a horse. Contact us to receive support from specially trained BHS staff or volunteers. 

Changing Lives Through Horses

Changing Lives Through Horses (CLtH) is a programme of education and support for young people, aged 5-25, who are either permanently excluded, at risk of permanent exclusion or who have special education needs or disabilities (SEND) and those who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET). Safety

Have you been involved in an accident whilst riding out? Would you like to become a volunteer and help improve the safety of horses across the UK? Or if you would like to find out more information about how you and your horse can stay safe, please contact our Safety Department. 

Access and Rights of Way

Our Access Department work hard to defend, extend and promote safe, easily accessible off-road riding for everyone. Please contact the Access Department for enquiries about bridleways and equestrian access.
