At the BHS, we value, respect and embrace diversity and equality, enabling us to be inclusive and to engage with as many different groups of people as possible across all our stakeholders.  

Children and young people should be able to enjoy sport and recreational activities like horse riding in a fun, safe environment and be protected from harm. They are the future of our industry, and we all have a duty of care to safeguard their welfare – that goes for those who participate, coach, volunteer and work in equestrianism.

The law and management of public access rights vary widely between the four countries of the United Kingdom.

The British Horse Society's aim is to ensure that everyone can enjoy horses in a safe environment. To this effect, we are taking reasonable measures to check the suitability of anyone with access to our young people by following the Government’s safeguarding and vetting requirements. 

The British Horse Society (Scotland) has updated its Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) policy in line with current Scottish legislation.
