Choose the best. Choose an establishment approved by the BHS

Whatever your reason for seeking out a riding centre – be it to learn to ride, for a pleasant hour’s hacking, or training up to advanced level – you will want to pick an establishment that is both reputable and well run.

British Horse Society Approved Establishments have horse and pony welfare along with client safety and satisfaction as priorities. All establishments are insured for public liability and comply with the latest health and safety legislation. To uphold the scheme’s standards and ensure quality teaching, unannounced annual inspections are organised for your peace of mind.

There are more than 1,000 BHS Approved establishments in the UK, Ireland and worldwide.

The BHS Approval Grading System was introduced in 2010. There are three levels: Approved (A), Commended (C) and Highly Commended (HC).

Highly Commended is the highest level that can be achieved and there are compulsory sections and optional sections. Each establishment has been assessed against detailed criteria in an effort to recognise well managed centres that offer first rate customer care, quality instruction, high levels of horse husbandry, and general good practice throughout. The inspection process is divided into elements and each one is individually graded and listed for every entry on our approved establishment list.
