Booking and Information
An excellent training day for anyone interested in bits and bitting, in particular coaches who see a variety of clients and may need to assist with bitting problems, and anyone training for BHS or Pony Club assessments. Presented by Olivia Turner, a qualified and British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) recommended bitting expert. Six CPD points are available for BHS Accredited Professional Coaches.
Programme
Tea and coffee available on arrival, ready for a 9.30am start
09.30-12.30 Theory session (including a short break)
Theory sessions will cover:
- Head and mouth assessments - what to look for in relation to bitting. How to check the fit of a bit and bridle.
- Lorinery science: types of bits and how they work
- Bridle parts relating to bitting and performance - focus on nosebands and their function
- Common bitting issues and what causes them
- Is it the bit? Understanding different factors relating to bitting and performance issues
12.30-13.00 Lunch Break
13.00-16.00 Practical session
Practical sessions will cover:
- Real mouth assessment
- Check bit and bridle fit
- Assess performance in current bit and discuss what they see. How a bit change might help and what type of bit/s they want to try
- Assess horse in different bits
We'll meet some different guinea pig horses and riders, with a variety of bitting problems, and see Olivia work with them to try and find solutions.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided throughout the day. There will be a lunch break – lunch is not provided, so please bring a packed lunch. It goes without saying to dress for the weather - we will be spending most of the day in the indoor arena. You may wish to bring a cushion for your seat!
£40 for BHS Accredited Professional Coaches, £45 all others. Please note the reduced rate is ONLY for BHS APCs, not coaches affiliated to other organisations - thank you.
This day has been accredited as CPD for BHS Accredited Professional Coaches and counts for six CPD points. Certificates of attendance can be provided on request to coaches requiring CPD for other organisations, but it is your responsibility to check they will accredit the course.
Refund policy: tickets will be refunded where they can be resold. No refunds will be given for tickets which cannot be resold, unless a doctor's certificate is provided.
