BHS Scotland Access Training 2024 - Session 2
10 October 2024, 7pm-8pm
These sessions are designed to give you a good understanding of outdoor access in Scotland and how it works so you can confidently and effectively advocate for responsible access in your area, resolve access issues and negotiate access improvements.
We run these sessions for BHS volunteer Access Representatives, but all equestrians who are interested in gaining a more in-depth understanding of outdoor access in Scotland are welcome to attend. In addition, this year for the first time, we are delighted to invite all Local Access Forum members in Scotland to join us.
All sessions will be held online, 7pm-8pm. The sessions have been designed as a series, so we recommend you attend all four sessions. Please book a ticket for each session you would like to attend.
Session 1: 26 September 2024 - Introduction to access rights and responsibilities.
Session 2: 10 October 2024 - Access legislation and how it works.
Session 3: 24 October 2024 - How to deal with access issues.
Session 4: 31 October 2024 - Improving access for everyone.
Information on each session:
1. Introduction to access rights and responsibilities (26 September 2024)
Let’s set the scene. What are access rights, and what does responsible mean? Who are all the statutory and non statutory organisations and what do they do? What is our role, as access takers, landowners and volunteers?
2. Access legislation and how it works (10 October 2024)
Let’s take a closer look at the legislation and guidance and how it works in practice. Where do access rights apply and where do they not apply? Are there other pieces of legislation that affect our access? What have we learned from recent court cases?
3. How to deal with access issues (24 October 2024)
Now that we’ve covered the theory, let’s look at how we apply it in the real world. If an access issue arises, how can we resolve it? What information do we need to consider? Who should we speak to? Who can help?
4. Improving access for everyone (31 October 2024)
From advocating for good access, to maintenance, to building new paths and installing better infrastructure, there’s lots to be done to make the most of our world-leading access rights. Let’s look at some of the things, big and small, that we can do to improve access for everyone.
Open to all.
This talk will be recorded and the link to the recording will be sent to all. If you cannot join the event live on the evening, please only purchase a 'recording' ticket.
