Changes to licensing guidelines 2018
Defra have now issued guidance upon the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.
These regulations concern all establishments whereby horses and ponies are used for hire or reward. At this stage the new regulations will only effect centres in England from 1st October 2018. As a result of this, where necessary the British Horse Society have updated their Approved Riding Centres criteria to reflect these legislative changes in licensing guidance.
A requirement of the new guidance is for Riding Schools to be documenting some routine activities that are undertaken on a daily or regular basis. To help our centres with this, we are providing example templates for our centres to adapt for their use and these will available through Croner i. Centres must ensure any documentation they adapt reflects the actual working practice at their centre as these templates are provided with the expectation that centres may differ in their working practices.
If you have any questions about accessing Croner I, the Defra guidance document or amendments upon the BHS Approved Scheme criteria, then please contact the Approvals team on 02476 840506 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
