In the past year alone*, 426 road incidents have been reported to The British Horse Society (BHS), resulting in the death of one person and 21 horses.

Over the last five years there have been 2000 reported road incidents in the UK involving horses. Most – over 1500 – involved vehicles passing the horse too closely; over 180 resulted in the death of a horse, and 36 caused the death of the rider.

The British Horse Society (BHS) recognised the best of the equestrian world, at its annual awards ceremony, held in Saddler's Hall, London on Friday.
