The British Horse Society in Gloucestershire were very pleased to welcome over 35 delegates to the BHS First Aid for Horses course on 25 February at Fromebridge Mill, Whitminster. The BHS committee in the county had kindly subsidised the cost of the event to make this training more than affordable to all those who attended.
Chris Wright BVSc CertVR CertEM(IntMed) MRCVS of B & W Equine Vets presented the course. The morning session covered emergencies such as colic, cast, choke and nosebleeds. It then went onto discuss viruses and infectious diseases and how to deal with them. The afternoon session covered the types and treatment of wounds, eye problems, foaling, laminitis and treating abscesses in feet.
A few minutes were spent talking about the benefits of joining the BHS and the up and coming events that are planned by the BHS in Gloucestershire, pointing people in the direction of the website for news of events etc.
As well as going away with more knowledge of how to identify and deal with basic equine first aid issues all of those who attended will receive a BHS Certificate.
Many thanks to Chris and B&W Equine Vets for their time and to everyone who attended.
