What BHS Ayrshire been up to:
Lots going on over the Summer with BHS Ayrshire as always with membership grown to a whopping 637! In May we held two events in Eglinton Park. Our Access and Awareness Evening incorporating the Police Scotland Lose the Blinkers Campaign was very well attended, and there was even a visit from the Police horses!
Our second Event was the Access Ride where small groups of riders enjoyed guided rides round the Park and a great time was had by all.
As always in June we held our Longest Day Ride at Titwood. This is an evening ride round the fields at Titwood followed by tea, coffee, cakes and chat! Weather was kind and we had a great evening.
Our second charity show with Morris Equestrian Centre kindly donating the fabulous venue saw lots of riders having a great time. Our thanks to Liz, Alan and Andrea who ran the TREC obstacle at the show. Liz and Alan McKay have recently retired from our Committee but still help out with our TREC events for which we are most grateful.
The Committee all put forward their choices of charities to donate the proceeds of the show to, and it was decided to divide it among all of them, with the following each benefiting by £200 - Vets With Horsepower, North Ayrshire Cat Protection League, World Horse Welfare, Lose the Blinkers, Hessilhead Wildlife Centre, Riding For the Disabled, Rare Breeds Survival Trust and Eglinton Park.
A few words about our Access Events from our very hard working Access Secretary Elaine Honeyman:
May was a very busy month for BHS Ayrshire starting with an Access Awareness Evening at Eglinton Country Park in conjunction with Police Scotland to promote the 'Lose the Blinkers' campaign to encourage road safety. Later that month there was an Access Ride around Eglinton Park to promote the park as a safe place to ride and the reintroduction of the permit system for riding in the Park.
BHS Ayrshire held a Mid-Summer Ride at Titwood Equestrian Centre courtesy of Ms. Margaret Montgomerie the riders enjoyed a ride around the fields followed by tea and cakes.
In September BHS Scotland held a Ride at Barskimming Estate Mauchline. This ride was very well supported and the magnificent sum of £1822 was raised. Thanks to Julie Hanna for excellent organisation as usual. This is a great ride to go on for the lovely scenery and excellent catering afterwards.
We will be hosting a Fun Ride at Craigengillan in November so don’t miss out on that!
Please watch out for our future Events which include an Equine First Aid Evening with MBM Vets at Fergushill on 2 November, Our Annual Meeting and Talk at Morris E.C. on 14 November, Christmas Beach Ride (date TBC) and last but not least our TREC Evening at Muirmill E.C. on 17 October, details on the web event listing.
Those of you on Facebook will see dates for all our Events. Hope to see you all there and remember to Email Elaine with any ideas for rideouts or any other Events you would like to see BHS Ayrshire putting on. Elaine’s email is email@example.com
