Sefton Park in Liverpool echoed to the sound of “Happy Hooves” as horses and riders took part in a decorated fun ride, which was organised by the Merseyside Committee of the British Horse Society (BHS).

History was re-lived as the horses and ponies graced the “Jockey Sands” as they would have done when the ride was first opened in the park in 1872, when the ladies of Merseyside would present themselves to eligible men while riding side-saddle in their finest clothes.Mersey Horse Riders

Riders were invited to dress their horses and ponies in fancy dress with either a western style, victorian-style, best-turned out, painted or “just made to look fabulous”.Young visitors to the park also had the chance to rise on a dappled grey rocking horse.

Event organiser and BHS committee member, Pauline Hayward, said: “The families, park visitors and riders enjoyed a warm and enthusiastic welcome, and the committee would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made it such a fantastic day.”

The event was captured by photography student, Georgiarose Dunn, of Liverpool College, who captured the beautiful horses and their riders in their full glory.
