Once again, this training day was blessed with sunny weather, although we had had some anxious days wondering if the ground would be dry enough for the parking.
More than 30 riders from complete beginners to experienced Treccies practised on a variety of obstacles. The Bridge as usual scared the riders more than the horses. One pair teetered at the top of the steep 'Ride Down' slope but finally came down safely, and few had trouble with the Maypole.
The biggest problems were with the Rein Back and the Side Pass as some horses were new to the idea. Riders went away remembering that one step sideways or backwards is brilliant and more will soon come, but a confused or frightened horse learns nothing.
We always find that riders can do more than they expect, and so everyone goes away having achieved something, and most have big smiles, too.
This was the last training Day at Anchor Farm. Look out for new venues next spring.
