On 30 May the North and West committee organised a ride from Saywell Farm on the North Downs, east of Maidstone. Three options were given to riders – gentle and faster accompanied rides and a route for orienteering practice. Participants all thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially seeing as everyone managed to dodge the early morning rain!
After returning back from their rides everyone had an excellent barbeque. A lovely ride across the beautiful North Downs, good food and the fact that the committee had raised approximately £300 for Access and Welfare left the organisers feeling very satisfied!
The committee also gave two Access Achievement Awards which were presented at the Kent Local Access Forum meeting. They awarded Michele Snoding, an officer in the County Rights of Way department, in gratitude for many years of quick responses and helpfulness; and Kirstie Williams from Kent Highways for managing to get signs NP956.1 (route for pedal cycles, pedestrians and horses) installed beside West Malling Bypass. The committee had argued for these signs for nine years, Kirstie got them paid for and put up in six months. Bravo Kirstie!
All in all, an excellent week for Access.
