On Saturday 22nd March 2014 Chrissie Sutton and myself (Laura Campbell) attended Britton Farm in Ickham to share stories and advice with a group of riders. Our session started with a chat about Hi-Viz, what to wear and why. We used this as an opportunity to discuss the dangers on the roads and recent cases against drivers and horse riders and what these mean for the rest of us.
After the discussion our volunteer modelled correct attire and set off on the simulated road route. This was a great opportunity for the group to ask questions while seeing a rider in action. Everybody was surprised by how rusty they were and how different simple junctions can be on horseback when compared with driving a car.
Following the simulated route we had tea and biscuits. This was a good opportunity to get to know each other better and talk about what we had just seen and learned.
