BHS Essex are finally celebrating the news that their second bridleway route has been approved on Lake Drive, Coombe Wood in Benfleet.
This ensures that riders have access to continuing routes through ancient woodland.
The BHS‘s initial 1994 claim and appeal were refused on grounds of insufficient evidence. However the BHS bridleway committee later submitted 28 completed user evidence forms along with various researched documents, that eventually convinced ECC that the requirements of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 had been met.
The order amending the Definitive Map of Public Rights of Way will be made in due course including Lake Drive’s exit midway up Bread and Cheese Hill.
BHS Essex would like to thank all the riders who assisted with this claim and made this possible. These routes will not only provide enjoyment, safety and perpetuity not only to local horse riders and other entitled users, but will enhance the existing Village Green rights, so tirelessly progressed and achieved by members of The Friends of Coombe Wood.
