You saw it on TV but what really went on at the Olympics?
The 40 lucky BHS members who jumped at the chance to attend the special lunch laid on for them on Cross Country day at the Osberton International Horse
Trials found out from none other than Team GB Manager Yogi Breisner.
Following coffee on arrival, there was time to wander round, do some shopping, watch the dressage and soak up the atmosphere before enjoying an excellent two course lunch. Yogi then entertained his spellbound audience with many tales, including his first trip through London on the Public transport system, the conversations he overheard, and taking the soldiers, who replaced the missing security guards, to meet our team event horses.
He kept everyone enthralled and much laughter, and eventually cheering, was heard coming from the marquee until finally, following some questions and answers, Yogi selected the winning tickets for the raffle of books with the £58 raised going to the ‘Patrick Pony Appeal’.
It was then time for everybody to set off on an inspiring guided course walk led by South African Olympic event rider Alexander Peternell. The pace was brisk, but there was still time for a midway break at the Pimms bar before returning to the hospitality area for tea and cakes.
This day proved a real hit and we’ve had numerous requests to arrange more similar days – and the good news is that this is already in hand, because another is planned at Belton International Horse Trials in April, so keep a look out for details. Thanks go to Stuart and Anna Buntine of BEDE Events for organising this tremendous event for BHS members and for their extremely generous hospitality.
