Jodi Shanahan who represented BHS and is North Lincolnshire region's Membership Secretary is on the left of the photo and joining her are some of the volunteer members of Axholme Bridleways Association who helped organise the event - Andrea Rowbotham, Hayley Drakes and Sally Maw. We'd like to acknowledge Helen Condliff too who is not in the photo, but who worked tirelessly to ensure the event was a huge success and Dennis Oliver, our Secretary, for taking the photograph.
As part of Ride Out UK month, Axholme Bridleways Association organised an event on 14 May 2017 which attracted over 130 participants to Farmers Farm Shop in Westwoodside, who kindly provided a field for our start and finish and parking of lorries and trailers and provided excellent refreshments.
This event raised £441 for the BHS Paths for Communities Fund and the local Lincs/Notts Air Ambulance also were at the event and were well supported, raising £150 with their tombola.
Half of those taking part were horse riders who enjoyed the local North Lincolnshire countryside on horseback with some choosing to ride the two long routes and covering around 15 miles. Our riders were delighted to receive the lovely big red rosettes sent to us by the BHS.
The remaining participants were mainly walkers, a group of runners and a few cyclists, proving that our association welcomes all users of the local routes. All participants thoroughly enjoyed the day and the weather was very kind to us.
Our thanks go to all the people who spent many hours of their time on a voluntary basis to organise this big event. We are fortunate to have some fabulous members in our bridleways association and were able to welcome a few more at this event so our members now total around 130.
Much progress is expected in coming years in this particular area with the development of the Axholme Greenway bridleway route which will link villages and be a multi user route.
