The “Spooky Spectacular” held at Elvaston Castle on Sunday 20 October lived up to its name. Members of the public encountered the unexpected on a misty, moist morning! There were vampires on horseback, ghosts, ghouls, witches and skeletons leading ponies looming through the lingering mist as the BHS and Erewash Riders Association held their Halloween Ride.
Over 90 riders participated with well over half of them in Fancy Dress (a competition judged by Sheila Matthews of Risley Saddlery) with various games and a TREC course available to be tackled along the route.
The ride was followed by refreshments (courtesy of Cresswell Caterers), a rosette and toffee apple for the riders and well earned carrots for the horses.
This annual event is one of a series of local rides organised by BHS Derbyshire and the Erewash Riders Association as it works with the authorities towards the provision of off-road, safer riding routes.
