The British Horse Society welcomes inclusion of equestrians in new Welsh framework

The Welsh Government has released its Road Safety Framework for Wales that sets out their approach to road safety until 2020.

The new Framework aims to help all partners of the Welsh Government to deliver effective road safety interventions and target the reduction of deaths and serious injuries in Wales.

The BHS had lobbied hard for equestrians to be included as vulnerable road users and Mark Weston, Director of Access at the Society, said: “The recognition of the Welsh Government that equestrian road users are vulnerable road users is most welcome, as is their expectation that partners will actively engage with the horse riding community to consider whether any road safety interventions should be introduced where there are significant numbers of horse riders and/or road traffic collisions involving horses.”
