The UK’s greatest outdoor celebration of everything equestrian, Royal Windsor Horse Show, kicks off the 2015 British summer show season on Wednesday 13 to Sunday 17 May 2015.
A must-attend event for all horse and country lovers, the five-day show will see over 3,000 horses and ponies descend on Her Majesty The Queen’s private grounds at Windsor Castle. International competitions take place in show jumping, dressage, carriage driving and endurance racing, and there are 130 national showing classes. Other highlights include spectacular displays from The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery and The Household Cavalry, the DAKS Pony Club Mounted Games and The Shetland Pony Grand National.
Beyond the competitions and displays there’s plenty to see and do for all the family, with an old-fashioned funfair and over 230 trade stands, selling a range of goods from all things equestrian to homeware, fashion and beyond. The beautiful grounds of Windsor Castle – only open to the public for the duration of the show - are perfect to sit down with a picnic and enjoy the variety of displays taking place with all the family. What’s more, the opening day, dubbed ‘Windsor Wednesday’ is completely free for all visitors.
While you’re at the show, why not come and find out more about the work of the BHS? We will be hosting a number of exciting events in the BHS marquee during the show, with a host of experts on hand to answer your questions throughout the week.
Several book signings will also be taking place during the show, firstly with acclaimed teenage fiction author Lauren St John joining us on Wednesday 13 April. Lauren is the bestselling author of The One Dollar Horse series of books. She has very excitingly agreed to give a talk about her background with horses and why she was inspired to write about them. This will be followed by a short reading from her new book, The Glory, and a question-and-answer session.
Katie Jerram is also hoping to drop in on Thursday to provide some tips on the showing world and sign copies of her books.
Saturday’s featured author is Juliet Blaxland, author of the beautiful new book about the Household Cavalry’s horses – Nimrod: A Cavalry Black: From Foal to Retirement.
We’re also excited to welcome former Horse and Hound editor Lucy Higginson, who will be giving an exclusive talk on Saturday afternoon: Horses, Hounds, Riders, Readers and Deadlines – Confessions of an Equestrian Editor.
For more information about these and the other exciting events taking place in the BHS marquee please keep an eye on Facebook, Twitter and the noticeboard outside the BHS marquee (next to the Frogmore Arena).
Alternatively, if you just want to take the weight off your feet and relax while watching the action in the Frogmore Arena, then why not come and join us for a lovely cup of tea and some delicious homemade cake? It’s free to BHS Members and available to all others for a small donation.
