Let the excesses of Christmas and the bad habits of 2014 fade into the distance; it’s time for a fresh start!
What better way to re-energise, feel fitter, stronger and healthier for the New Year ahead than by getting into the saddle? Hoof, the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF’s) participation programme, is challenging you to get inspired and make a #resolution2ride for 2015!
Over the next few weeks, Hoof will be releasing a series of short training videos, including exercises both on and off the horse, to inspire people to improve their riding.
British Horse Society Fellow and UKCC level 3 coach Jo Winfield and Human Sport Science and Medicine Lead Practitioner for Equestrian Team GBR Andy Thomas will demonstrate some simple but effective exercises you can use to help you feel stronger, more confident and secure in the saddle.
These bite-sized clips will be accompanied by motivational tips and tricks to help you keep up the momentum.
Whatever your goals, horse riding has multiple benefits to help you be better in all areas of your life. Not only is it great fun but it’s a wonderful fitness activity that will burn calories and tone muscles - especially your legs and core - providing a fantastic cardiovascular workout.
Research shows riding can also help you to feel happier, more confident and mentally sharper, too.
Perhaps you want to challenge yourself competitively by taking part in a British Dressage Team Quest competition, the British Eventing BE80 training series or by becoming a British Showjumping Club member?
Alternatively, you could set your sights on exploring the great outdoors on horseback; clock up the miles by taking on an endurance ride, book a riding holiday or simply enjoy hacking out with friends. Or your aim could be to achieve a particular training goal for you and your horse with the help of your coach.
Whatever suits you, we’re encouraging you to ride more, ride smarter and feel better in 2015 and to share your resolution on social media to help inspire others by using the hashtag #resolution2ride.
Whether you are new to riding and mastering rising trot is your mission, or you’re looking for something more to keep you motivated, Hoof can help!
