British Dressage Head of Sport Operations

Closing date: 2 Mar 2018

British Dressage Head of Sport Operations

British Dressage (BD) is the governing body for the Olympic sport of dressage and a member of the British Equestrian Federation.  We aim to promote and develop dressage in the UK, with 2,500 fixtures at 180 affiliated venues across the country.  An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the senior management team, based at our Head Office in Meriden, to drive our sport forward as Head of Sport Operations.

The Sport Operations Manager is responsible for all areas of sport delivery including competitions, fixtures, results, grading, governance, rules and anti-doping.  This role is central to driving participation in dressage at all levels, for both able bodied and para riders, regionally, nationally and internationally.  In conjunction with the Head of Business Operations they will work closely with the Regional Development Officers to ensure that quality competition opportunities are developed and maintained across BD’s eight regions.

We are looking for someone who has strong leadership skills, with a proven track record in sport operations.  Politically astute, with high levels of emotional intelligence, they must work closely with all stakeholders and partners in order to influence the development of the sport and ensure high standards of delivery at all times. The post holder must be an excellent communicator and be competent in relationship building at all levels.  Confident and articulate, they will be an effective ambassador for British Dressage with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines, working equally well autonomously or as part of a team.

The successful candidate will have excellent people management and influencing skills that have been developed and honed in a similar sport operations environment.  A broad knowledge, interest and understanding of equestrian sport, and in particular dressage, would be advantageous for this role, although not essential.

Due to the nature of our sport a flexible approach to working, including some weekends and evenings, is required. You must also have a full, clean driving license and be prepared to travel as necessary.  For more information please see or contact Angela Green ( for a copy of the Job Description.
