The city of Ripon is only 4 miles away on the River Ure. Ripon is a beautiful market town that was founded over 1300 years ago, and is famous as an old Cathedral City where monasteries have stood since the 7th Century. The old city of Ripon is filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs, and also boasts many historical buildings and museums, including Ripon Cathedral, the Wakeman’s House, Studley Royal, Fountains Abbey and Ripon Spa Gardens. A market is held every Thursday on the Ripon market square next to its 300 year old Obelisk, where the Hornblower sounds his horn at 9 o’clock every night. This is a renowned tourist location with designated areas of outstanding beauty brought to the TV screens during Le Tour de France!
For the horses
Stabling is provided on a DIY basis in three stone built traditional stables in an enclosed yard. A deep shavings bed on rubber mats is provided (or straw by request).
Guests have use of their own secure tack and feed room adjacent to the yard and accommodation. Rodent proof bins are provided for storage of your horse feed. There is plenty of good daily turnout available for your horse in a 3 acre paddock next to the farmhouse or a smaller area for those that need to be restricted.
We have ample parking for horseboxes and trailers.
Bed and Breakfast accommodation is provided at Galphay Woods in a beautiful and imaginative conversion of part of the barn building, which has created a comfortable large double/family room with en-suite shower. The annex has a fridge, microwave plus tea and coffee making facilities.
After you ride, sit and relax in our secluded garden, a lovely place to catch the evening sun and glorious sunsets across the fields and woods (also the best place for mobile phone signal!).
There are many beautiful rides to explore around the area with a variety of circular off road routes on local private rideways and quiet country lanes. Woodland rides and the occasional stream will take you to the historic Fountains Abbey or you could reach moorland in the opposite direction. Plenty of advice and maps on hand.
Galphay Woods is opposite Cowmyers Farm (Lindrick Livery) which has both indoor and outdoor equi-sand 20x40m riding arenas and a small cross country course available for use or to book for tuition
We can also tailor training to suit your individual requirements.
