Stage 3 and 4 Training with Carole Broad FBHS

Horse Knowledge Care and Riding Stage 3: Who is this qualification for, and what is needed to enter it? The BHS Stage Three is suitable for those aged 17 years and over. To enter the exam you will need to have passed your BHS Stage Two. The Horse Knowledge and Care section builds on the knowledge and skills acquired at Stage Two, and also includes: caring and fitting tack for the competition horse; and understanding horse conformation and physiology. The riding is split into two sections; flat and jumping, which includes show jumping (3’3ft/1m) and cross country (3ft/91cm).

Why should you do the BHS Stage Three? Your skills and knowledge will progress to enable you to take your place as a professional within the industry. The Stage Three is a component of the BHSAI certificate (link), our first level of instructor.  If you are looking for a career as a groom, you will be able to join the Register of Grooms.

Horse Knowledge Care and Riding Stage 4: Who is this qualification for, and what is needed to enter it? The BHS Stage Four Horse Knowledge and Care is suitable for those aged 19 years or over, the riding can be taken by those aged 18 years or over. To enter the exam you will need to have passed your BHS Stage Three. The Horse Knowledge and Care section builds on the knowledge acquired at Stage Three and also includes; knowledge of managing an equestrian business. The riding section encompasses the training of horses and is composed of three sections; lungeing, flat and jumping which includes show jumping (3’6ft/107cm) and cross country (3’6ft/107cm). 

Why should you do the BHS Stage Four? The achievement of this qualification requires commitment and dedication to your own personal knowledge and riding skills. The BHS Stage Four is a component of the BHS Intermediate Instructor Certificate.  This qualification provides the skills to enable you to progress to a senior or management position within the industry. 

The course will run over four Tuesday evenings:

  • 12 January
  • 09 February
  • 01 March
  • 22 March

Time: 10am - 1pm. 

Cost: £280 for the full course if paid in advance or £80 per session. Places are limited so please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
