We Plough the Fields
On Saturday 3 October BHS Scotland will be holding our fourth ‘Introduction to Working Horses day’ near Crieff in Perthshire.
This event started in 2012 in response to increasing enquiries over how to acquire and use horses and ponies for various farming and gardening tasks.
The 2015 event will be led by several time served ploughmen, including Ruaridh Ormiston, Ross Kinnaird, Davy Duncan and friends. Both horse and pony implements will be demonstrated.
Several rigs will feature what working horses can do on the land, how to get started, how to find equipment and help and care of the working horse including fitness and feeding.
This 2015 event will show case haymaking from pasture to stook to stack with Ross Kinnaird using all old implements. And famous showing duo Robert Sibbald and Mhairi Dawson will demonstrate the turn out and welfare of Clydesdales and Janice Kirkpatrick will present her working horse heritage project.
BHS Nation Director for Scotland, Helene Mauchlen said: “There is a huge interest in working with horses and this introductory day promises to enlightening and fun. It will be very informal but is always a good ‘hands on’ event. It will take place at East Crieffechter Farm on the Madderty road from Crieff and there will be signs out on the day, as at the moment we are not sure which fields will be harvested!”

Get up close and personal with these gentle giants (and strong ponies), ask questions and enjoy some home baking. £10 at the gate (includes soup and a roll).
