We are delighted to return to Warwickshire College for the National Riding Schools Championships 2017. The competition is open to BHS Approved Centres and all competitors must be non-horse owners competing on horses and ponies on a Riding School Licence. There are six classes in total:

Class 1 - 12 Years and Under
Dressage – BHS National Riding Schools Championships – Test 1
Show jumping course – Maximum 45cm
Practical stable management quiz

Class 2 - 13 – 17 Years Old
Dressage – BHS National Riding Schools Championships – Test 1
Show jumping course – Maximum 60cm
Practical stable management quiz

Class 3 - 18 Years and Over

Dressage – BHS National Riding Schools Championships – Test 1
Show jumping course – Maximum 70cm
Practical stable management quiz

Class 4 - 17 Years and Under
Dressage only – BHS National Riding Schools Championships – Test 2
The collective marks will be made up on accuracy of test, empathy, effectiveness of application of aids.

Class 5 - 18 Years and Over
Dressage only – BHS National Riding Schools Championships – Test 2
The collective marks will be made up on accuracy of test, empathy, effectiveness of application of aids.

Class 6 - Overall Team Score
The highest three scores from one centre will be added to provide an overall team score. These scores can be taken from scores from classes 1, 2 or 3.

(These age groups apply to the date of the Championship 30 March 2016).

General Information

In classes 1, 2 and 3 there are three phases with a collective overall score deciding the winners. The first phase is the dressage test, usually followed by the practical stable management section (this can be taken before the dressage test if preferred) and the last phase is the show jumping section. Classes 4 and 5 are dressage only.

Prizes for all Classes

The champion in each class will receive a sash, rosette, certificate and trophy. Each winner received a voucher for a pair of riding boots kindly donated by Champion.

Competitors placed second to third will receive a rosette, trophy and a certificate.

Competitors placed fourth to tenth will receive a rosette and a certificate.

The winning instructors in classes 1, 2 and 3 will each receive a trophy and certificate.

The Worshipful Company of Saddlers has kindly donated vouchers to the winning centre of classes 1, 2 and 3.

There will be special prizes awarded throughout the day for all age groups, including:

  • Prettiest mare
  • Best turned out
  • Roundest bottom (equine, not human!)
  • Best plaited mane
  • Best plaited tail
  • Star of the Future
  • Horse/pony the judge would most like to take home
  • Most handsome gelding
