Deliver the programme
To deliver the Changing Lives Through Horses programme a centre would need to meet the following criteria:
- Be BHS Approved which ensures we can maintain a secure and safe environment for young people to be working in.
- We would also require the Lead Changing Lives through Horses Coach, to be qualified to a minimum of BHSAI standard and be an Accredited Professional Coach. This ensures we are delivering with coaches who have up to date safeguarding training, first aid and are criminal record checked according to their national requirements.
- The Lead Changing Lives through Horses Coach and your centre staff will be required to attend a training day which will be delivered at your centre. The training day has been developed in partnership with children’s mental health charity Place2Be.
The programme works to develop six key life skills through equestrian activity: Communication, Confidence, Relationships, Teamwork, Responsibility, Personal Achievement.
The framework we have developed is called the BHS Achieve Awards and includes 10 stable management awards and six riding awards. The skills are activities that can be carried out in the wider equestrian environment, such as wildlife awareness, photography skills etc.
