To prepare for The British Horse Society Riding and Road Safety Test, it is strongly recommended that, as a minimum, the following literature is read and understood:

  • The Highway code

  • The British Horse Society Riding & Roadcraft Manual

The current issue of the Riding and Roadcraft Manual has the following amendments:

Page 12: Shortest stopping distance at 50mph should be ‘=53m(175ft) or 13 car lengths’

Page 44: Q21: Where should novice riders/horses be positioned in a group of riders? Answer should be ‘b’

Q23: What is the sequence of traffic lights, starting from red? Answer should be ‘a, d, b, e, and c’

Page 54: Q3: Which type of Ordnance Survey map shows field boundaries? Answer should be ‘a’ and ‘c’
