Slippery Road Surfacing

Some road surfaces can be extremely slippery and cause horses to fall. Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) is one such surface, but there are other types of dressing that can cause problems.

Horses and Highway Surfacing is a guidance leaflet for Highways Authorities which advises them to ‘dress’ roads appropriately, so that horses can safely use them. Click here to view the leaflet.
