Equine Passports

Equine passports are required for all horses, ponies, mules, donkeys, zebras and other exotic equidae. This is a legal requirement throughout the European Union, to fulfil the criteria of identification, disease control and to ensure that any animal treated with veterinary medicines not authorised for use in food-producing animals does not enter the human food chain. If the UK had not complied with this law, we would have risked losing 70 percent of horse medicines that are currently available.

In this section we aim to answer the most commonly asked questions regarding equine passports, provide information on applying for a British Horse Society (BHS) passport or updating the information recorded on an existing BHS passport.
