BHS examinations and qualifications are internationally recognised. BHS exams are an established, tried and tested method of exploring candidates’ equitation and stable management skills and are the envy of many countries.

We have examination centres in the UK and overseas in USA, Spain and Hong Kong
BHS overseas exams

There are a number of BHS examinations and qualifications you could work for depending upon whether you have professional aspirations or recreational.

The British Horse Society administers an examination system designed to meet the requirements of the riding instructor, yard manager and those who wish to further their knowledge of riding, stable management and horse care.

BHS examinations are aimed primarily at career students and held on specific dates at officially approved BHS Examination Centres throughout the British Isles, Spain, Hong Kong and the USA. BHS examinations vary in price from stage to stage, with the benefit of a 10% discount for students in full time education.

Before embarking on a career with horses it is important to carefully select the place of training. Although it is not obligatory for candidates to receive their training at a BHS Approved Centre, it is certainly advisable to do so.

Candidates wishing to take examinations must be Gold or Junior Gold members of the BHS at time of application and on the day of their exam.

Candidates who have already obtained equine qualifications may be exempt from taking some of the BHS exams.
